A description of a unique 18th-century mechanical bureau created in the workshop of the celebrated European furniture-maker David Roentgen and a large freestanding clock incorporating a mechanical organ, the most remarkable creation of Johann Georg Strasser, a St Petersburg-based mechanic and clockmaker in the second half of the 18th century.
A three-dimensional computer model shows the operation of the secret mechanisms and is accompanied by recordings of the musical contrivances in each of the devices.
